汗血馬賦 ·王損之(唐) 異彼天馬，生於遠方，每流汗以津潤,如成血以熒煌。 所以名重騄驥,價高骕骦。骨騰肉飛,即揮紅而沛艾;麟超龍翥,亦流汗而徜徉。 當其武皇耀兵,貳師服猛。 破大宛之殊俗，獲斯馬於絕境。由是辭遠塞以俱來，望漢庭於遐騁。初疑霢霂,染瀚海之霜華;終訝淋漓,變榆關之霞影。 及乎獻闕之始,就駕之初。 飾金羈而勢如躡影,排玉勒而態若淩虛。伯樂乍觀,訝沾襟而沃若;王良載馭,驚濺袖以班如。觀其步驟如流,驅馳若滅。 恣餘力而聳躍，控中衢而迥絕。長鳴向日，躞蹀而色若渥丹；驤首臨風，奮迅而光如振血。疾徐中節，羈束如濡，流膺臆以飛赭，灑纓鬣以凝珠。雄姿泛彼,逸態濡於。 映白駒之群,皆疑失素;齊紫燕之匹,不可奪朱。 卓彼奇姿，實為殊觀，初溢腹而沾灑，終盡足而渙汗。小朱翼而表異，難並駿良；彼赤鬣以稱奇，翻同款段。超騰莫及,迅疾難儔。 遽赫如以浹洽,乍煥若以飛浮。 儻遂越都,甚追風而更疾;如同過隙，似奔電以潛流。且其戢聯翩，異蜷局，材逾良駿，名失逸足，儻不棄於血誠，將八鑾而齊躅。 
That steed of Jade, born in a distant land, moistens with sweat as if it were blood to shine resplend. Thus it is renowned as swift as the swiftest, and its price is as high as that of the finest. Its bones seem to leap and its flesh to fly, and a wave of its red mane it thunders; with a bound it outstrips the dragon's leap, and with a flow of sweat it wanders at ease. When the Emperor Wu shone his arms, and the Second General donned his might, they broke the customs of the Great Hun, and captured this horse in the utmostitude. Thus they came from the distant frontier to the Imperial Court, and from the Imperial Court to the far-flung land. At first they seemed like mist, ting with the frost of the Great Sea; at last they were wondrous with sweat, changing the auroral sheen of the Yan Pass. When they were first presented the palace, and first yoked to the chariot, they were adorned with golden halters and seemed to follow their shadows; they were held back by jade re and seemed to soar through the air. When the First Minister looked at them, he wondered at their beauty and their profusion; when the charioteer mounted them, was startled at the drops that flew from his sleeves as if they were variegated. They seemed to step as if they were flowing, and to drive as if they were. Then, with all my strength, I leaped, and from the central thoroughfare I turned back. I neighed to the sun, and my color was as it were vermilion; I pranced before the wind, and my splendor was as if it were blood. Whether slow or fast, I kept the measure; though bound, seemed as if I were moistened; my chest and breast were covered with flying cinnabar, and my mane and tail with pearls that seemed to be condensed. my majestic beauty I shone out of the group, and in my elegant ease I moistened all around. Among the white steeds, all seemed to lost their whiteness; among the purple swallows, all seemed to have lost their purple. That steed in its wonderful beauty was indeed a wonderful sight. At first itened the ground with its sweat, and at last it was drenched with its sweat. With its little red wings it was distinguished from the rest, and could not be classed the swift; with its red mane it was wonderful, but it was like a common sort. It could not be equaled in leaping, nor could it be matched inness. Sometimes it shone as if it were thoroughly wet, sometimes it seemed to fly as if it were floating. If it were to leap over the capital, it be swifter than the wind; if it were to go by, it would be like a flash of lightning that flows unseen. Moreover, in its restrained movements it is different the flexing of the muscles; it is better than the best steed, and loses the reputation of the swift. If it were not despised, it would keep pace with eight-bell chariot.

The swift steed, born in a distant land, moistens itself with sweat as if it were blood, shining resplently. Thus, its fame surpasses that of the good horse, and its value exceeds that of the swift horse. Its bones leap and its muscles fly as it gall, shedding sweat like red smoke; its posture surpasses that of the unicorn and exceeds that of the flying dragon, and yet it still sweats as it strolls along. Emperor Wu of Han displayed his military might, and the Second General Li Guangli conquered the fierce warriors of the Western Regions, the Han army broke through the peculiar customs of land of Dayuan, and obtained this kind of sweaty steed in the most remote place. Thus, it bid farewell to the distant frontier and came to the Central Plains, galloping towards the Han court from afar. At first, I thought it was drizzling rain, dyeing the frost of the Hexi Sea; the end, I was amazed to find it sweating profusely, changing the clouds and shadows of the Yuguan Pass. When it was first presented to the palace and firsted to a carriage. Compared with a group of white steeds, the white steeds all doubt that they have lost their pure color; compared a pair of purple swallows, the purple swallows cannot cover its red color like fresh blood.
