Hong Kong's Three Dinosaur Exhibitions Michael returned to Hong Kong from the UK to celebrate the Spring Festival, and old friends met, feeling cordial. My connection with Michael began in about 1999. At that time, he still worked at the Hong Kong Science Museum, and we gradually became familiar with each other through several exhibition collaborations. What is most unforgettable is the three dinosaur exhibitions – those years, we fought three tough battles side by side. The exhibits of the dinosaur were all real fossils unearthed, borrowed from major museums in the Mainland and brought to Hong Kong. China is a big country of dinosaurs. During the Triassic Cretaceous periods, the traces of dinosaurs were all over China – Yunnan has Luofengosaurus, Sichuan has Maanshanosaurus, Yonguanosaurus, Huayangosaurus, Shandong has Styracosaurus, Inner Mongolia has Protoceratops, Zhadan Nuoeros, Henan has Yellow River Dragon, Liaoning has Sinornithosaurus… Fossils unearthed in various provinces have different shapes and species. If not for catastrophe 65 million years ago, dinosaurs might have evolved into "terrorists" today and stood side by side with us in the world. Dinosaurs ruled the for nearly 200 million years, but no one has seen their true appearance. This mystery is particularly attractive to children. Therefore, the Science Museum holds a dinosaur exhibition every years to satisfy the curiosity and imagination of generations of children. Organizing a Chinese dinosaur exhibition is complicated. Just selecting exhibits requires traveling around several provinces. Michael, like experienced hunter, has a sharp eye and can immediately tell which fossil is the most representative and worth transporting a long distance. He is familiar with the details of dinosaurs in various provinces and which one can tell the most moving story. I rely on my accumulated connections over the years to communicate and coordinate with the mainland museums for rental. One person is responsible for professional screening and the other is responsible for logistics. With the combination of the two, the treasure hunt goes smoothly. The assembly of dinosaur fossils is even more challenging. When theils arrive in Hong Kong, they are just a pile of scattered bones. To restore them into towering skeletons, it depends entirely on the expert's skillful hands. participated in several installations with experts and took on the responsibility of supervising the progress, coordinating resources, and ensuring the installation is completed on time. Seeing the bones in their proper and the moment when the dinosaur "stands" up, I feel unspeakable joy. The text descriptions of the exhibition are also not to be taken lightly. Michael with his usual meticulousness, wrote every label and every explanatory board. He checked and rechecked those awkward scientific names, complex geological ages, and dinosaur living habits ensuring accuracy and clarity for children to understand. I watched from the side, secretly admiring – this kind of patience, I don't have. As for the fun interactivity of the exhibition, it is even more a place for Michael and his colleagues to show their creativity. They designed interactive models, developed sound and light devices, set up scenes and created a world full of dinosaurs, allowing children to immerse themselves in it as if they had traveled back to ancient times. In the exhibition hall, children look up with little faces, amazed, asking questions, laughing, a scene that is still vivid in my memory. Every dinosaur exhibition is a big event in Hong Kong. During the exhibition, the Science Museum is bustling with people, families come with old and young. I stand aside, watching children shuttle under the dinosaur skeleton, their eyes flashing with curiosity – at moment, all the hard work and fatigue are worthwhile. Nowadays, old friends meet again, drinking tea and recalling the past, as if it were yesterday. Those days of striving together, those times of giving it all for the same goal, have all been brewed into the thickest pot of tea in life.
