香港DM德馬景泰藍文科集團/一把茶壺,藏著中式美學的另...

《別有一番風味的雅集》

今期香港書法家協會春茗,一眾書法家即席揮毫,所書內容卻與尋常雅集大異其趣。漢和兄寫「濕柴煲老藕」,我寫「唔使問阿貴」,志恆一揮「老貓燒鬚」——這些統統是廣東話裡的俚語。此外還有「濕水棉花——冇得彈」「阿茂整餅」「濕水炮仗」「咁大隻蛤乸隨街跳」「大石砸死蟹」「食碗麪反碗底」「珍珠都冇咁真」「冇曬符拂」「馬死落地行」「水過鴨背」「豬籠入水」「刀仔鋸大樹」「冇釐搭霎」等等,皆是廣東人的「口頭禪」。有些生鬼有趣,有些一語中的,有些耐人尋味,但往往要廣東人才明白箇中三昧。
若細究這些俚語的來歷,不少都藏著民間智慧與市井典故。譬如「阿茂整餅」——舊時廣州茶樓有位點心師傅叫阿茂,他閒來無事便在堂前巡看,見哪款餅食快賣完,便立刻動手現做。本意是説他勤快主動,後來卻漸漸引申為多管閒事、畫蛇添足,語氣也帶上幾分戲謔。「大石砸死蟹」喻強權壓頂,受害者有口難言,像蟹被巨石壓住,連掙扎都無力。「食碗麪反碗底」斥人忘恩負義——吃了人家的飯,卻反過來砸人家的碗底。「珍珠都冇咁真」是説事情千真萬確,連珍珠都比不上它的真實。「馬死落地行」則帶著草根的韌勁:騎的馬死了,便落腳步行,比喻失去依靠後唯有靠自己硬撐。「水過鴨背」譏諷人像鴨背上的水珠一樣不留痕跡,學過就忘,毫不上心。「豬籠入水」最是吉利,豬籠四處有孔,浸水時八方進水,象徵財源滾滾。「刀仔鋸大樹」講以小博大,明知不易卻咬牙堅持。「冇釐搭霎」形容説話做事不着調、不靠譜,沒半點正經。
至於「濕柴煲老藕」,濕柴難燒火,老藕難煮軟,合起來便成了「又麻煩又折騰」的代名詞,隱喻事情棘手或關係糾纏不清。「唔使問阿貴」中的「阿貴」,相傳是舊時衙門或警局裡一個什麼都知曉的人物,後來便用「唔使問阿貴」表示事情明擺著,根本無需多問。而「老貓燒鬚」——老貓本應機警,卻燒了自己的鬍鬚,比喻經驗豐富的老手也有失手栽跟頭的時候,既自嘲也嘲人。
説到底,這些俚語大多源自草根階層,聽落很「土」,也不那麼「斯文」,但勝在接地氣,為普羅大眾所接受。文化之中,有些屬高雅,可謂陽春白雪;有些偏通俗,可謂下里巴人。其實不同層次的人自有不同喜好,不能一言以蔽之。是日雅集,眾人拋開經史碑帖的嚴肅面孔,以粵語俚語入書,墨香裡混雜着市井笑談,反倒別有一番滋味——這不也是香港文化最生動的寫照麼?
At this year's Spring Tea Gathering of the Hong Kong Calligraphers Association, a group of calligrhers wielded their brushes on the spot, yet the content they wrote was vastly different from the usual elegant gatherings. Hanhe wrote "Wet firewood stewing old loot," I wrote "No need to ask A-gui," and Zhiheng brushed "Old cat burning its whiskers"—all of these are Cantonese slang. Additionally, there phrases like "Wet cotton wool—can't be stretched," "Ah-mao making cakes," "Wet firecrackers," "Such a big frog jumping around th street," "A big stone crushing a crab," "Eating noodles and smashing the bowl," "Even pearls aren't that real," "No more charms to wave," "The hoies, so walk on foot," "Water off a duck's back," "Pig cage in water," "A small knife sawing a big tree," and "No rhyme or son," all of which are the "verbal habits" of Cantonese people. Some are quirky and interesting, some hit the nail on the head, and some are thought-prg, but often only Cantonese people can truly grasp their essence.
If one delves into the origins of these slang terms, many conceal folk wisdom and urban anecdotes. For insnce, "Ah-mao making cakes"—in old Guangzhou teahouses, there was a dim sum chef named Ah-mao. When idle, he would patrol the front hall; seeing whastries were running low, he would immediately make more. Originally meaning he was diligent and proactive, it later came to imply meddling in others' affairs or adding unnecessary embellishments,th a tone of teasing. "A big stone crushing a crab" symbolizes overwhelming power, where the victim is silenced, like a crab crushed by a boulder, too weak tostruggle. "Eating noodles and smashing the bowl" rebukes ingratitude—eating someone's food and then smashing their bowl. "Even pearls aren't that real" means something is absoy true, more real than pearls. "The horse dies, so walk on foot" carries a grassroots resilience: if the horse dies, one walks on foot, symbolizing having to it out alone after losing support. "Water off a duck's back" mocks people who forget things instantly, like water sliding off a duck's back, showing no car"Pig cage in water" is the most auspicious; pig cages have holes all over, so when immersed, water flows in from all sides, symbolizing rolling wealth. "A smaknife sawing a big tree" speaks of achieving great results with small means, gritting one's teeth to persist despite knowing it is difficult. "No rhyme or reason" describes speecactions that are off-key and unreliable, with no seriousness at all.
As for "Wet firewood stewing old lotus root," wet firewood is hard to b and old lotus root is hard to cook soft; together, they become a synonym for "troublesome and exhausting," metaphorically implying a thorny situation or tangled relations In "No need to ask A-gui," "A-gui" is said to be a figure in old government or police offices who knew everything; later, "No neeto ask A-gui" came to mean something is obvious and doesn't require further inquiry. And "Old cat burning its whiskers"—old cats should be alert, yet this one burned iown whiskers, metaphorizing that even experienced veterans can make mistakes and fall flat, serving as both self-mockery and mockery of others.
In the end, most of thesems originate from the grassroots, sounding very "rustic" and not so "refined," but they win in being down-to-earth and accepted by the common people. In cre, some are highbrow, like "Yangchun Baixue," while others are popular, like "Xiali Baren." In fact, people of different levels have different preferwhich cannot be summed up in a single phrase. At this gathering, everyone put aside the serious faces of classics, history, and stele rubbings, incorporating Cantonesg into their calligraphy. The ink fragrance mixed with street anecdotes, creating a unique flavor—this is not also the most vivid portrayal of Hong K
